JCC Dionysian Players Presents Rent April 23 and 24

The Dionysian Players of Jefferson Community College (JCC) presents the Broadway musical Rent on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Robert R. and Jean S. Sturtz Theater at JCC.

The story of Rent takes place during the thriving days of unconventional lifestyles in New York City’s Lower East Side where struggling musicians and artists lived on the edge of poverty and in the shadows of HIV/AIDS.

The 1996 Pulitzer Prize–winning show is the 7th longest running Broadway musical and is known for increasing awareness of musical theater amongst the younger generation. Often times referred to as a rock opera, Rent is based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Boheme. In 2005, a motion picture based on the musical was released featuring many members of the original Broadway cast.

The Dionysian Players is a Jefferson club comprised of students with an interest in theater and performing arts.

Ticket prices are $5.00 general admission and free for JCC students who present their SUNYCard. All tickets can be purchased at the Student Activities Center, McVean Student Center (Room 4-100) or by calling 315-786-2431.
