Earn a B.S. in Nursing Locally—Learn More Apr. 7

Are you interested in earning your bachelor’s degree in nursing without traveling outside the area? Thanks to a collaborative partnership between Jefferson Community College (JCC) and SUNY Institute of Technology (IT), eligible applicants can earn their bachelor’s degree in nursing without traveling any further than Watertown. To learn more, attend the SUNY IT information session being held on Wednesday, April 7, at Jefferson Community College (JCC) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room 6-002 of the Jules Center.

Representatives from SUNY IT will be available to answer specific questions pertaining to the nursing degree program and to perform transcript reviews. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply to SUNY IT and pre-register for fall courses offered in Watertown beginning in September 2010. An associate’s degree in nursing is required to apply for this program. Tuition assistance is available.

The 8-semester program entails a variety of instructional methods including a traditional classroom setting on Jefferson’s Coffeen Street campus, online classes, and hybrid courses which are a blend of traditional and online. Certain Jefferson courses can be used to fulfill general education requirements. A program liaison from SUNY IT will be available on Jefferson’s campus to teach selected nursing courses and to support and advise students in the program. The Baccalaureate degree will be granted by SUNY IT to students who successfully complete program requirements.

The partnership between Jefferson and SUNY IT has been ongoing since 2006. The first class of students graduated in December 2009 with bachelor of science degrees in nursing. Upon their successful completion of the program requirements, a second class of nine students will graduate from SUNY IT in May.

To learn more about the information session and how to apply for tuition assistance, contact nursing professor Marie Hess at 315-786-2516 or email mhess@sunyjefferson.edu.

The SUNY IT Baccalaureate in Nursing program is available at SUNY Jefferson through support provided by a U.S. Department of Labor Community-Based Job Training Grant.
