Earn a B.S. in Respiratory Therapy from SUNY Upstate at JCC—Info. Session Mar. 17

Beginning in the Fall 2010 semester, State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University will be offering a Bachelor of Science degree in respiratory therapy on the Jefferson Community College campus in Watertown. Interested students should plan to attend aninformation session at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17 in room 6-218 of the Jules Center at Jefferson Community College. Joseph G. Sorbello, chair of the respiratory therapy department at Upstate Medical, will be available to answer specific questions pertaining to the program.

The program is full-time study, eligible for financial aid, and can be completed within two years. The majority of classes will be offered during the day via distance learning at JCC, but overall the program will include classroom, online, and hybrid instruction and some evening clinical hours. Applicants must possess CPR for the Professional Rescuer or BLS for the Health Care Provider certification as well as 60 eligible transfer credits. All pre-requisite courses can be taken at Jefferson Community College. Many graduates of Jefferson’s mathematics and science (allied health concentration) associate’s degree program will enjoy nearly seamless transfer to the respiratory therapy program.

As part of the higher education center partnership between Jefferson and Upstate Medical, a program liaison from Upstate Medical will be available on Jefferson’s campus to teach selected courses as well as to support and advise students in the program. The baccalaureate degree will be granted by Upstate Medical University to students who successfully complete program requirements.
