SUNY General Education Requirements

Students planning to transfer into a SUNY baccalaureate program should complete one course in at least 7 of the 10 knowledge and skill areas listed below.

(Exception: Engineering Science students should plan to complete 6 of the 10 areas.)

SPECIAL NOTES:

  1. Although a given course may appear in more than one knowledge and skill area, please note that it can only be used to fulfill one requirement.

  2. Based on what we know now, students enrolled in the AS Human Services degree program may use ASL 121 or ASL 122 to fulfill the Foreign Language learning outcome. Students enrolled in other degree programs must use one of the courses listed below to fulfill the Foreign Language competency.

  3. Please note that students who have received a grade of 85 or above on the NYS History Regents exam may select from a longer list of courses to fulfill the American History competency than those students who have not taken this exam or whose score is less than 85 (see below). It is important to confirm the history regents grade before advising a student to select a history course from this longer list. If the Admissions Office received a high school transcript, you should have a copy in your advising folder and you can confirm the grade on this transcript. You may also call the Admissions Office (315-786-2277).
