College Athletics Receives 2017-2018 NJCAA Region III Sportsmanship Award

Published: October 25, 2018

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is one of 22 members of the National Junior Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the only Region III college to be awarded the 2017-2018 Sportsmanship Award.

The Sportsmanship Award is bestowed to Region III member institutions of the NJCAA who exhibit dedication to the honor and integrity of intercollegiate athletics and whose student-athletes and staff display outstanding sportsmanship during competition. To meet award criteria, Region III member institutions must remain off the probation list, have no expelled coaches, no expelled athletes for multiple occurrences and no fines. Additionally, the award candidate must meet approval of the Standards and Ethics Committee.

“It is an honor to be the only college in Region III to receive the Sportsmanship Award,” says Jeffrey L. Wiley, director of athletics at JCC. “Receiving this award really speaks to the integrity of our coaches, athletes, and athletic staff.”
