Designated 2019 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges

Published: October 29, 2018

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is honored to be acknowledged again by Military Times in the Best for Vets: Colleges rankings. JCC is one of 208 schools that made the list and only one of four New York State community colleges recognized. Jefferson first received Best for Vets designation in 2017.

As with all Military Times rankings, Best for Vets: Colleges 2019, is an editorially independent news project that evaluates the many factors that help make colleges and universities a good fit for service members, military veterans and their families. The ninth annual rankings factor in the results of Military Times’ comprehensive school-by-school survey of veteran and military student services and rates of academic achievement. Nearly 500 colleges took part in this year’s detailed survey.

“Our veterans work hard to achieve their academic goals while at Jefferson and our staff works equally hard alongside them to make that possible,” says Craig McNamara, JCC’s veteran services coordinator. “Best for Vets recognizes both the accomplishments of our staff and the student veterans. The shared recognition is what makes this national recognition special and unique.”

Military Times’ annual Best for Vets: Colleges survey asks colleges and universities to meticulously document a tremendous array of services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to students with military ties; and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus. Military Times also factors in data from the Veterans Affairs and Defense departments, as well as three Education Department sources: the IPEDS Data Center, College Scorecard data and the Cohort Default Rate Database. Jefferson Community College ranked 11th out of 33 two-year schools that were recognized.

The rankings are published online at MilitaryTimes.com and in a Military Times magazine sent to subscribers the week of October 22, 2018, as well as print products – Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, and Marine Corps Times.

Military Times’ rankings series includes Best for Vets: Colleges, Best for Vets: Employers, Best for Vets: Places to Live, and Best for Vets: Franchises.
