JCC Students Receive 2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Awards

Jefferson Community College (JCC) is pleased to announce that Kaylee-Lynn Brooke Beleza, Amherstview, Canada, and Kaela M. Mellowship, Alexandria Bay, have received State University of New York (SUNY) 2023 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence.
This honor, established in 1997, is bestowed upon students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement. Beleza and Mellowship will be recognized for their achievements at Jefferson’s 59th Commencement Ceremony on May 19, 2023.
Beleza is graduating with her associate in science (A.S.) degree in sports management. She has been named to the President’s List or Dean’s List every semester. An international student-athlete, Beleza is a member of the JCC softball team for which she received Athlete of the Week honors, was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region Softball 2nd Team and Mid-State Athletic Conference All-Conference Softball Team. In addition to athletics, Beleza is a resident assistant in East Hall where she exhibits strong leadership skills and is known for her caring and supportive nature among peers. She is a member of the Jefferson Cast and can be seen in a variety of promotional pictures as well as on the College website. After graduating from Jefferson, Beleza plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in sports management.
Mellowship is graduating with her associate in science (A.S.) degree in business administration. Starting college as a Jefferson-Can Scholar due to her academic success in high school, Mellowship has continued to excel academically, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA and earning President's List honors every semester. Mellowship is not just focused on academics, but is also community-minded and involved in extra-curricular activities. She participated in a student panel during JCC’s spring open house, volunteered her time to assist the JCC food pantry Thanksgiving Basket program, serves as president of the business, leadership and career skills club and is a member of the College’s Iota Eta Chapter of Alpha Beta Gamma National Business Honor Society. After graduating from JCC, Mellowship plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Potsdam through the College’s Higher Education Center.
